CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese Anniversary

CMS Travancore and Cochin diocese was erected under the Jerusalem Bishopric Act in 1879, John Speechly was consecrated as the bishop, by Archibald Campbell Tait, Archbishop of Canterbury, on 25 July at St Paul’s Cathedral. He returned to Kottayam on 27 January 1880 and served as the first Bishop of Travancore and Cochin. July 25th was the day of St James. So we are celebrating it as Madhya Kerala Diocesan day.
On 27 September 1947, the four southernmost dioceses of protestant missionary movements united and form the Church of South India. The presiding bishop at the CSI’s inauguration was C. K. Jacob, Bishop of Travancore and Cochin, who became Bishop in Central Travancore. Later this diocese renamed as Madhya Kerala Diocese.
